Hiatus

Conscious Entities has gone quiet for some while now. Initially this was due to slowly worsening health issues which I won’t relate in detail; both the illnesses and the treatments involved cause serious fatigue. In November I had to spend three weeks in hospital getting serious antiviral treatment.

In early December I was much better and came back to post something. To my surprise I found that part of my mind just wouldn’t co-operate (a disconcerting experience that might well have been the subject of an interesting post in itself!).

No doubt this is partly due to continuing lack of energy, but I must also admit that some of the energy I do have is currently being siphoned off into writing fiction – I recently dusted off some old short stories wot I wrote, and got placed or shortlisted in a number of competitions. I suspect my subconscious wants to do more of that just now.

I don’t think I’ve said my last word here. But things are likely to remain quieter than they have been over the last sixteen years. In the meantime, if you have been – thanks for reading.

  4. I hope your health issues will clear up fully soon! May the new year be kinder to you and yours.

I’ve learned lots from your posts and our interactions over the years; it’s always brightened my day a little to get that [new post] notification in my inbox. So while I kinda feel a bit selfish about it, I do hope you’ll find some time and zest to give us your unique take on the matter of mind every now and then.

In the meantime, if you’re willing to share some, I wouldn’t mind reading a piece or two of your fiction…

  5. We shall profit this period of silence and reflection, as long as it might last, as much as all the reading and discussion we have had.

I wish I could share some energy to get you back soon.

    Thanks to you Peter.

PS: what part of your mind was checking on the non-cooperative one, and realizing the “anomaly”? 😉

  6. Get well soon, and good luck with your fiction-writing projects. I hope that whatever threw you for a loop in November has now run its course.

  7. Like many I greatly appreciate your posts and the discussions here, and will be coming back for references on readings I come along. All the best to you.

  8. Thank you for the update and please take care of yourself and keep listening to your subconscious! When the time and you are right, we will hopefully be here to read what you write!

  9. Thanks for all your interesting posts, and for providing a community for discussion on these topics. Hope you recover soon. I for one will definitely stay subscribed for any occasional posts, should they come. Best of luck on the fiction writing!

  10. Just to join your other fans in wishing you a full recovery and in appreciating what you’ve done here Peter! Whichever way your inclinations take you from now on, here or elsewhere, I hope you find fulfillment.

  11. …’lack of energy, (a disconcerting experience that might well become the subject of an interesting post in itself!).’

German physiologist Ernst Wilhelm von Brücke who, in coordination with physicist Hermann von Helmholtz, set forth a view that the human organism is a dynamic system to which the laws of chemistry and physics apply–as in thermodynamic’s conservation of energy…thanks wiki

‘Disconcertingly’; If there is no energy loss in ‘organic systems’ in the universe or cosmos, then we can’t claim we are only chopped liver…my take, we are here to experience and observe even chopped liver…thanks

  12. Hopefully you continue to improve health-wise. I am always impressed by those people who can maintain such a high level of blogging for any length of time. This blog appears on the blogrolls of several people whose work I also admire.

  13. Thanks for everything you’ve done here, one of the greatest introductions to such a complex topic.

    Enjoy the fiction writing!

  14. Your work on this website has been phenomenal and I’ve spent many happy hours trawling through the archives. Thanks for everything you’ve done and very best wishes for whatever and wherever you turn your hand to in the future.

  15. Just wanted to add to the deservedly long list of thanks and well-wishes. I first discovered CE around ten years ago and although I sometimes forget to check for months at a time, every time I’ve visited over the last decade I’ve been made acutely aware of the mental stimulation and existential reinvigoration this topic (and your writing around it) has provided. A big thank you Peter, and best of luck with everything.
